Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before getting started. If your question isn't here, feel free to get in touch.
Getting started
What happens in an initial session?
The first session is a chance to meet, talk about what brings you to therapy and see if we're a good fit. I'll explain how I work, and there is no obligation to continue. If you'd prefer a shorter introduction first, I also offer a free 15-minute call online. Just get in touch to arrange it.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy can be short-term (typically 6–12 sessions) focusing on a specific issue, or open-ended to explore deeper, long-standing patterns. Therapy ends when you feel ready. That decision is always yours.
What is Person-Centred Therapy?
Person-centred therapy is built on the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Rather than giving advice or analysing you, I provide a non-judgemental, empathetic environment to help you access your own inner resources and make the choices that are right for you.
Practicalities
Do you offer sessions online?
Yes. While I practice face-to-face in Balham/Clapham South, I also offer online sessions via video call for those who prefer or require remote support. Online sessions are only available to clients based in the UK.
Is your therapy room accessible?
My therapy room is on the first floor with no lift, so it may not be accessible to everyone. If you have mobility needs, please do get in touch before booking and we can discuss whether online sessions might be a better option for you.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 48 hours notice for any cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are payable in full.
How do I pay for sessions?
Payment is due within 24 hours of each session by bank transfer. Your fee is fixed for at least 12 months from our first session, and I will give one month's notice of any increases.
Professional standards
How do you handle my personal data?
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What ethical framework do you follow?
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.
